Mid-MEAC is delighted to announce that the Team Lansing Foundation has donated the funds for a floating dock to be installed in East Adado Park on downtown Lansing's Grand River. The grant was made possible through the efforts of the Greater Lansing Sports Authority and installation was completed by the City of Lansing Parks & Recreation Department.
The dock will be used for this weekend's inagural Capital City Dragon Boat Race which will be held on Labor Day weekend. Teams will race from the City Market to the trestle bridge just south of Saginaw Street on a course of 300 meters. Mid-MEAC, the Lansing Rowing Club and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority are responsible for organizing this first-ever event with the proceeds going to support Mid-MEAC's water protection and environmental education programs.
Dragon boat racing is a 2,000 year old Chinese tradition and is the fastest growing watersport in North America. Mid-MEAC is proud to be part of this unique event that highlights the importance of river protection, physical activity and Chinese culture. Please join us this weekend to celebrate this new addition to the waterfront and to ROAR with the dragons.
