On December 14, 2011, Mayor Virg Bernero announced the 2011 Arts & Culture "Sense of Place" grants to 8 local organizations include Mid-MEAC. $125,000 in grants were made to support excellence in a wide range of artistic and cultural disciplines.  Grantees include the Allen Neighborhood Center, All-of-us-Express Children's Theatre, Lansing Art Gallery, Lansing Symphony, MSU Community Music School, MSU Residents College of Arts & Humanity, REACH Studio Art Center and Mid-MEAC.

Mid-MEAC is delighted to bel included among these outstanding community organizations and will use the funds to support the innaugural Bike Rack Art Project. The project will engage art artists in a competition to create 10 bike rack sculpture for placement along Lansing's River Trail. The project promotes scrap metal recycling, environmental stewardship, community engagement, placemaking, connectivity to the River Trail and bicycling.

The bike rack sculptures will be on display June 17 - 23, 2012 during Scrapfest and permanently installed on June 27, 2012 along the River Trail.
