Please join Mid-MEAC for our April Land Use Lunch on Friday, April 6, 2012 where we talk about new and emerging issues in land use.  We are delighted to welcome Michael Score, President of Hantz Farms, LLC. Mike was born in Detroit and graduated from MSU with a B.S. in Crop & Soil Science. After working internationally in agriculture development, Mike and his wife Mary returned to the U.S. and worked in Kentucky on sustainable agriculture and then at MSU Extension where he worked at the MSU Product Center, helping more than 200 entrepreneurs in efforts to achieve their dreams and build sustainable communities through food system business development.

Now that he's "retired", Mike joined Hantz Farms, which is a very large urban farm in the City of Detroit. This for-profit venture aims to transform Detroit into a destination for fresh, locally grown natural foods, create a viable, beautiful environment that will enhance the City, attract tourism, increase the tax base, create jobs and greatly improve the quality of life in Detroit.

Please join us in welcoming Mike to Lansing and hear his thoughts on sustainable agricultural development at the internatonal, national, state and local level.

This month's Land Use Lunch will be held at the Michigan Municipal League's Training Room (208 N. Capitol Avenue) in Downtown Lansing and features a light buffet lunch for $5.  Please note that it is Good Friday and many of the local churches (including our usual host, Central United Methodist Church) are having noontime services so parking and traffic might be more challenging that usual. We encourage you to walk, bike or use public transit to get to Land Use Lunch!
