Bicycle Commuting Classes - May 1 - 18, 2008
Smart Commute '08 is pleased to offer you the following bicycle commuting classes.
All classes are free to attend, thanks to our generous sponsors and community volunteers!
These classes are designed for adults who would like to learn the practical, logistic, and
safety details of bicycling to and from work. With just a little preparation, you'll be ready to bike
commute, and to reap all the rewards that bike commuting brings. (Such as increased
energy levels, relaxation, saving money, and doing your part to protect the environment!)

Lessons will be taught by long-time bike commuters and instructors Karen Kligman, Lenny
Provencher, Mike Egan, Tim Potter, and Mike Unsworth. All participants receive a course
packet loaded with the information you need to get started or improve your bicycle
commuting experience.

Thursday, May 1 @ MSU Library, 12pm - 1pm: Room 449 (North Conference Room, 4th
Floor, West Wing). This
1-hour class will give you the basics for getting started on bicycle
commuting. Instructors: Mike Unsworth and Tim Potter.

Saturday, May 3 @ MSU, 9am - 12pm: The Kiva, Erickson Hall.** This 3-hour class will cover
everything you need to know to have a wonderful bicycle commuting experience, including
sections dedicated to basic bike maintenance and repair, improving cycling techniques, and
an on-road practice segment*. Instructors: Mike Unsworth and Tim Potter.

**The Kiva is the roundish part of the bldg. on the NE corner near the river. There should be

Tuesday, May 6 Women's Bike Night @ MSU Bikes, 6pm (MSU Bikes is located in Bessey
Hall, on the side facing the river, lower level.) This class is being offered by
MSU Bikes, and
includes a short workshop, a practice ride, and some basic repair instruction. The workshop
will be taught by Melissa Stewart, Assistant Coordinator of MSU Bikes. Registration is
handled through MSU Bikes through a simple email RSVP to bikes@msu.edu. More info

www.bikes.msu.edu, as well as a survey allowing you to express what you'd like
covered in the workshop.

Wednesday, May 7 @ LCC Hermann Conference Center, 12pm-1pm: Room 107 (HCC is
located at 520 N. Capitol. Room 107 is toward the back, or east side of the building, facing
the "inner" LCC courtyard/walkways areas.). This
1-hour class will give you the basics for
getting started on bicycle commuting. Instructors: Mike Egan.

*Helmets, flags, and liability waivers are required for the on-road practice segment. Flags
and waivers will be provided as part of the class.
