Smart Commute '09 is pleased to offer you the following bicycle
commuting classes.

All classes are free to attend, thanks to our generous sponsors and
community volunteers!
These classes are designed for adults who
would like to learn the practical, logistic, and safety details of bicycling to
and from work. With just a little preparation, you'll be ready to bike
commute, and to reap all the rewards that bike commuting brings.
(Such as increased energy levels, relaxation, saving money, and doing
your part to protect the environment!)

Lessons will be taught by long-time bike commuters and instructors
Karen Kligman, Lenny Provencher, Mike Egan, Tim Potter, and Mike
Unsworth. All participants receive a course packet loaded with the
information you need to get started or improve your bicycle commuting
experience.

Smart Commute ‘09 Bicycle Commuting Class: Logistics, Routes,
and Practice
Ride East Lansing Hannah Community Center – Recital Room

This class includes half of the time dedicated to a classroom portion on
rules of the road, finding a route to work, recommended safety
equipment, and handling clothing/shoes/etc. The second half the class
is a practice ride to demonstrate the rules of the road, proper turning
techniques, and to build up rider confidence in starting, stopping,
changing gears, turning, and staying safe on the road and at
intersections. Instructors: Tim Potter and Lenny Provencher. Register at

Bicycle Commuting Classes – May 2 – 21, 2009
Thursday, May 21, 12pm-1pm, MSU Library North Conference Room (W449) in the West Wing
Smart Commute ’09 Lunch-Hour Intro to Bicycle Commuting Class
This one-hour introductory class will focus on finding a safe route, rules of the road, carrying cargo,
and planning for work attire and schedules. Instructors: Mike Unsworth and Tim Potter. Register at

*Helmets, flags, and liability waivers are required for the on-road practice segment. Flags and
waivers will be provided as part of the class.
